8月27日 The fallen hero. I recieved this weeks topic idea after watching an animal planet special on Sunday night. The special was over Michael Vicks dog fighting ring and the cruelty he paid to participate in. I realize this is not a new or current event but it deals with PR. I think Michael Vick would have had a better chance of getting a slap on the wrists or community service if he had been involved with drugs. I think it was the PR and the media that really aided in him getting the jail time he did.
You can sell/ buy drugs and go to court and say well ya know I messed up and I won't do it again. There isn't any group of people fighting for the drugs or trying to show how the drugs were victimized. With dog fighting though you know PETA is going to be all over that and they were. PETA had not been a fan of his for a long time due to suspision of dog fights. I am a huge animal person and have 3 dogs of my own so of course the videos they showed effected me, but you don't have to even like animals to know that dog fighting is sick and cruel and I seriously doubt anyone can come up with a good arguement otherwise. Dog fighting is hard to catch and even harder to prove and usually those poor suffering dogs are put down. If anything positive came from this it is that he is in jail ( though I think he should have gotten a year per dog which is like 58 years) , only two dogs were put down one due to illness and one due to aggression, Michael Vick had to file bankrupsty after all his endorsments quit him and all the pay out to animal groups and shelters he was required to. This case brought a underground problem to everyones eyes and I hope that someone might think twice now before entering that lifestyle. 8月21日 Ethics I think that PR persons have a bigger challenge then PR persons of the past. Ethics seems to a hazy area these days with those involved in the PR field. Companies may partake in shady buisness or even break laws and thier PR people take care of it or try to cover it up. Also, some people will leak the "secrets" or practices of their company to make more money. Money really can become the root of all evil.
PR persons working for celebs face an even bigger challenge both for their clients and themselves. A celeb may go out get drunk, wreak their car, get arrested, and have a DUI and it becomes the PR pesons job to try to make it where no one finds out. In that same light a PR person may know something really juicy and sell the story to the papers. Even though they know it is against their contract and good ethical practices.
