11月14日 It must take someone very strong...This is a video I saw on CNN and it made me so sad. Some teens were using a kitten that was just a few weeks old as a football! Really? That is just so messed up the thing that makes it worse is people who abuse animals often abuse spouses/ kids/ the elderly ect. Those teens will one day have spouses and children and how will they be treated. 10月31日 let your pet have a safe halloweenHere are some tips on how to keep your pets safe this Halloween from www.aspca.org
1. No tricks, no treats: That bowlful of candy is for trick-or-treaters, not for Scruffy and Fluffy.
2. Popular Halloween plants such as pumpkins and decorative corn are considered to be relatively nontoxic, yet they can produce gastrointestinal upset should pets ingest them. Intestinal blockage could even occur if large pieces are swallowed. 3. Keep wires and cords from electric lights and other decorations out of reach of your pets. If chewed, your pet could experience damage to his mouth from shards of glass or plastic, or receive a possibly life-threatening electrical shock. 4. A carved pumpkin certainly is festive, but do exercise extreme caution if you choose to add a candle. Pets can easily knock a lit pumpkin over and cause a fire. Curious kittens especially run the risk of getting burned or singed by candle flames. 5. Dress-up can be a big mess-up for some pets. Please don't put your dog or cat in a costume UNLESS you know he or she loves it (yup, a few pets are real hams!). For pets who prefer their “birthday suits,” however, wearing a costume can cause undue stress. 6. If you do dress up your pet, make sure the costume isn't annoying or unsafe. It should not constrict the animal's movement or hearing, or impede his ability to breathe, bark or meow. Also try on costumes before the big night. If your pet seems distressed, allergic or shows abnormal behavior, consider letting him go au naturel or donning a festive bandana. 7. Take a closer look at your pet’s costume and make sure it does not have small, dangling or easily chewed-off pieces that he could choke on. Also, ill-fitting outfits can get twisted on external objects or your pet, leading to injury. 8. All but the most social dogs and cats should be kept in a separate room away from the front door during peak trick-or-treat visiting hours. Too many strangers can be scary and stressful for pets. 9. When opening the door for trick-or-treaters, take care that your cat or dog doesn't dart outside. 10. IDs, please! Always make sure your dog or cat has proper identification. If for any reason your pet escapes and become lost, a collar and tags and/or a microchip can increase the chances that he or she will be returned to you. 10月3日 Have a little faith in me In the past I have written about cruelty and neglet facing animals therefore, this week I thought I would pep it up a notch and talk about Faith. Faith is a six year old lab/chow mix from Edmound Oklahoma with a very noticable difference from most dogs her age. Faith only has her back two legs she was born with out one front leg and the other had to quickly be amputated. The family noticed that right away as a puppy she would scoot on her stomach to get around and they desperatly tried to get her to sit upright. “We constantly propped her onto her back legs,” remembers mom Jude Stringfellow. “Mostly she would tilt and flop back down, but if she sat for a few seconds, we rewarded her with peanut butter, which she’ll do anything for."
9月19日 Thank you TV I know I have wrote about dog fighting before but this week it was brought up in the media, so I thought I would take advatange of that plus a newsrelease I recently read. The ASPCA has put together a mobile CSI animal unit to aid in forensic Veterenary work. Dog fighting is very hard to prosecute because you basically have to catch them in the act, however using the forensics they can now match the blood found left in rings to dogs they believe have fought. Now when a match is made it makes prosecution much easier. Recently in Georgia a dog fighting raid took place and 11 dogs were taken along with dog fighting gear.
This past Wed. on Fox's Tv show Bones they used dog fighting as that episodes case. They showed pictures of dogs fighting and described what the equiptment is used for and other details describing the pain dogs have to go through. There was even a commerical aired showing dogs giving their side of the story. They "talked" about how they do not want to fight but their masters make them and if they live the have to fight again, but if they lose their masters kill them. If you have not yet noticed I take dog fighting very seriously I think it is sick and cruel and I think the owners of those dogs should be put through what they do to those dogs. I think the commerical put on my the Humane society was a very good way to get the message to the public. 9月5日 Just say no!August 20th, 2008 the ASPCA released a news release on the largest puppy mill raid in Tennessee's history. More then 700 dogs were taken from the property as well as other domestic animals. Patricia Adkisson was indicted on 24 felony counts and other misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. The ASPCA used what they call "animal CSI" to assist in the case.
I hope people think about this and think next time they walk into a pet store to purchase a pet. Make sure they can provide valid information about where that pet came from to stop the puppy mill cycle. Better yet say no to pet stores and questionable breeders all together and rescue your next best friend. There are a ton of animal rescue agencies and shelters that need their animals adopted. I volunteered at an animal shelter and I hated watching them take dogs and cats away to be put down. Say no to puppy mills and yes to shelter adoptions. 8月27日 The fallen hero. I recieved this weeks topic idea after watching an animal planet special on Sunday night. The special was over Michael Vicks dog fighting ring and the cruelty he paid to participate in. I realize this is not a new or current event but it deals with PR. I think Michael Vick would have had a better chance of getting a slap on the wrists or community service if he had been involved with drugs. I think it was the PR and the media that really aided in him getting the jail time he did.
You can sell/ buy drugs and go to court and say well ya know I messed up and I won't do it again. There isn't any group of people fighting for the drugs or trying to show how the drugs were victimized. With dog fighting though you know PETA is going to be all over that and they were. PETA had not been a fan of his for a long time due to suspision of dog fights. I am a huge animal person and have 3 dogs of my own so of course the videos they showed effected me, but you don't have to even like animals to know that dog fighting is sick and cruel and I seriously doubt anyone can come up with a good arguement otherwise. Dog fighting is hard to catch and even harder to prove and usually those poor suffering dogs are put down. If anything positive came from this it is that he is in jail ( though I think he should have gotten a year per dog which is like 58 years) , only two dogs were put down one due to illness and one due to aggression, Michael Vick had to file bankrupsty after all his endorsments quit him and all the pay out to animal groups and shelters he was required to. This case brought a underground problem to everyones eyes and I hope that someone might think twice now before entering that lifestyle. 8月21日 Ethics I think that PR persons have a bigger challenge then PR persons of the past. Ethics seems to a hazy area these days with those involved in the PR field. Companies may partake in shady buisness or even break laws and thier PR people take care of it or try to cover it up. Also, some people will leak the "secrets" or practices of their company to make more money. Money really can become the root of all evil.
PR persons working for celebs face an even bigger challenge both for their clients and themselves. A celeb may go out get drunk, wreak their car, get arrested, and have a DUI and it becomes the PR pesons job to try to make it where no one finds out. In that same light a PR person may know something really juicy and sell the story to the papers. Even though they know it is against their contract and good ethical practices.
